Patent Agent
Bret has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Florida (2007), forming a solid foundation for working on electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and pure science technologies. Beginning his career at the US Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) as a Patent Examiner in 2007, Bret has also worked for multi-national law firms and as the corporate (in-house) patent agent in the aerospace, automotive, and rare earth element processing industries.

Wearing multiple hats in the patent world
From six years as a Patent Examiner, to working as a Patent Agent on prosecution and litigation teams, to more than eight years working in-house at aerospace and automotive companies—I bring a deep, well-rounded perspective to every project.
Hat 1, Patent Agent — I help clients identify and protect patentable subject matter, conduct prior art and patentability searches, develop strategic filing plans, and prepare high-quality patent applications.
Hat 2, Patent Examiner — At every stage, I apply my examiner insight to critically review the work using my experience at the USPTO and help maximize the strength and patentability of each invention.
Take Action
Do you have an idea that’s key to a product you’re developing? Are you about to publish your idea or product on a website, at a trade show, or offer it for sale?
Let’s talk first.
Once you make your idea public, something called a “public disclosure,” you have a very strict amount of time to file a patent application or your own disclosure (website, offer for sale, presentation to client/vendors/etc.) can prevent you from filing later. This time frame is less than one year in most cases – sometimes less than six months – and there are no exceptions to this rule.
